SAN DIEGO, Calif. — On Friday October 17, judge Joel R Wohlfeil of the San Diego Superior Court issued a temporary restraining order on a 186 unit, 8-story tower being constructed in Golden Hill. Preserve Greater Golden Hill sued the city for approving a project under Complete Communities.
This program is designed to add affordable housing in the city. Instead of affordable housing, the city granted an unusual waiver to permit a luxury apartment building to be built using this program. The project demolished five low and very low income units to construct a monolith with nearly all luxury units.
The significance of this project is that, if ruled legal by the courts, it would allow developers to target prime lower income rental areas such as Golden Hill. Under the guise of 'Affordable Housing', this would decimate affordable housing stock for luxury apartments.
The Temporary Restraining Order demonstrates the seriousness of this matter.
