Spring Gardening and Home Hardening: Ember resistant vegetation and defensible space around your home

  • Pathfinders 2980 Cedar Street San Diego, CA, 92102 United States (map)

Greater Golden Hill Fire Safe Council Spring Series

Wildfire risk is no longer just a seasonal concern—and increasingly, neither are the insurance consequences. Across San Diego, insurers are taking a closer look at wildfire exposure when issuing or renewing policies. That means what you do around your home today can directly impact your ability to stay covered tomorrow.

Join Jesh Taucher or San Diego Canyonlands for an interactive learning session on practical steps to protect your home while preserving your garden or canyon habitat. We’ll cover key do’s and don’ts, along with actionable strategies to improve both fire safety and insurability. The session will feature before-and-after photos of properties that have implemented these recommendations, and provide space for discussion, problem-solving, and planning tailored to your site.

This session is offered as part of the GGSH FSC Spring Gardening and Home Hardening Seires:

  • June 1 (6–7:30 PM, Pathfinders): Greg Rubin – Native landscape design for fire resilience

  • June 1–15: Rollout of 5 large green waste dumpsters at canyon-adjacent sites, free for community use

  • Ongoing: Free defensible space site visits with Mike Tuke (advice and guidance for homeowners)
