We’re Making Noise They Can’t Ignore — Keep the Pressure On
Hi Neighbors!
Great work last week, let’s keep up the pressure!
Golden Hill is still under threat from the 8-story, 180-unit A Street tower — it’s being pushed without traffic studies, fire safety reviews, or basic infrastructure support. It would sit directly across from an elementary school.
City leaders need to hear from us..
Lawsuits have already started in Pacific Beach, and protests are happening citywide over similar overdevelopment (see NBC San Diego and Fox 5).
This week, we ask everyone to:
Email Mayor Gloria – Demand he halt the A Street project and reform Complete Communities
Email Councilmember Whitburn – Thank them and ask for continued pressure on the mayor
Email Assemblymember Chris Ward – Say NO to SB 79 and STOP supporting developer-led chaos
Email Senator Steve Padilla – He voted YES on SB 79 – we need him to reverse course now
Each email takes less than minutes. Together, we’re making noise they can’t ignore.

Subject: Mayor Gloria — Stop the Madness of Overdevelopment
Message:
Mayor Gloria,
Golden Hill is furious.
The 8-story A Street tower across from an elementary school is being pushed forward without traffic studies, fire safety reviews, or infrastructure planning — all under your watch.
Your administration denied even basic safety requests from Councilmember Whitburn and Deputy Fire Marshal Tosca. You are now ignoring hundreds of residents, a packed public meeting, and a community that is organizing, protesting, and preparing to sue.
Meanwhile, other neighborhoods — like Pacific Beach — are already suing over similar issues. What are you waiting for?
We demand that you:
Halt the A Street project immediately
Order a full fire, traffic, and infrastructure review
Reform Complete Communities before more neighborhoods are destroyed
We are angry. And we’re not backing down.
Sincerely,

Subject: Thank You — Please Keep Pressuring the Mayor to Stop A Street
Message:
Dear Councilmember Whitburn, Jay Clevenger, and Planning Staff,
Thank you for standing with Golden Hill. We’re grateful for your support and again welcome Jay Clevenger to the team.
As you know, the A Street tower is completely out of scale, threatens public safety, and undermines our community. It must be stopped.
Your past requests for traffic and fire safety reviews were denied by the Mayor’s office. Please continue to:
Press the Mayor to halt this project
Push for aggregate development studies across Golden Hill
Demand fire safety and traffic reviews before any more approvals
We need leadership now more than ever. Thank you for fighting with us.
Sincerely,

Subject: Say NO to SB 79 and STOP the A Street Project
Message (paste into web form):
Assemblymember Ward,
San Diegans do NOT support SB 79. It destroys local planning and lets developers dictate our cities.
The A Street tower in Golden Hill — 8 stories tall, 180 units — is being forced through under Complete Communities without safety reviews. Your constituents are protesting and organizing.
We demand that you:
Reject SB 79
Pressure Mayor Gloria to halt the A Street project
Support local control and planning reform
We are watching. And we will not forget.
Sincerely,

EMAIL TO: Senator Steve Padilla
Submit via web form: Steve Padilla Contact Form
Subject: You Voted Yes on SB 79 — Now Fix It and Help Us Stop A Street
Message (paste into web form):
Senator Padilla,
You voted YES on SB 79. That bill overrides local zoning, encourages auto-dependent sprawl, and puts families at risk.
In Golden Hill, we’re fighting the 8-story A Street project, being built across from a school — with no fire or safety reviews. Your vote is enabling this chaos with even more to come!
We demand that you:
Fix SB 79 — exclude certified cities, restrict development to true transit zones
Call on Mayor Gloria to halt A Street
Stand with residents, not developers
We won’t forget who voted to gut our neighborhoods. Now help us fix it.
Sincerely,
