Lawyer Everett Delano is scheduled to file a lawsuit this week against the City of San Diego Wednesday to halt construction of CEDARst’s 180 unit, 8 story luxury apartment monolith. This has been approved on 3 former historic home lots on A street between 29th and 30th streets. He was retained by the Golden Hill resident group Preserve Greater Golden Hill.

In a backroom ministerial approval process, city employees approved this high rise structure directly under the final approach into Lindbergh Field endangering all arriving passengers. While trees on the periphery of the flight path in Bankers Hill and palm trees in Ocean Beach were ordered removed due to flight safety - and the Sunroad high rise by Montgomery Field was lowered; this massive 280 unit 8 story high rise that is directly below the final plane descent into Lindbergh Field was approved.

The process utilized a Complete Communities program where the mandate is for affordable housing to be built. In this project, five housing units that served low and very low income wage earners were bulldozed to be be replaced with eight ‘affordable’ housing units with rents out of reach of those same low wage earners.

In addition, bus route requirements were disregarded. This would intensify traffic congestion on one of only three two-lane evacuation routes in this designated high-risk fire zone. The developer also chose to build fewer parking spaces than units.

Golden Hill residents took action due to the public safety concerns, destruction of neighborhood quality of life and the precedent it sets to wipe out a dense neighborhood of truly low income housing for luxury apartments far out of reach of the low wage earners the community currently serves and which Complete Communities require.
