A Pathway to Save the 28th Street Canyon

Back in May, a developer announced plans to build five large homes in the 28th Street Canyon—one of the few remaining open spaces that’s been untouched for more than a century.

In response, neighbors came together to imagine a better future: one where this canyon is preserved as a natural refuge for generations to come.

Thanks to this incredible community effort—and a few lucky breaks—the current landowner has agreed to donate the land to Preserve Greater Golden Hill! This gives our community the power to protect the canyon and keep it open for everyone.

There’s still a lot of work ahead:

  • Managing overgrown brush

  • Restoring native plants to support local wildlife like the California Gnatcatcher and monarch butterflies

  • Improving trails to better connect this canyon to Switzer Canyon
